The research and development of smart responsive polymeric materials represents a key area of innovation in the field of materials science, and solvent purity directly determines the responsive properties of these materials. In the synthesis of smart responsive polymeric materials (temperature-sensitive and pH-sensitive), researchers have long been hampered by impurities in solvents: Ions and small-molecule impurities in conventional solvents can affect the conformation of polymer chains, thereby reducing the material’s response sensitivity and reversibility. The development of many smart drug carriers and flexible actuators has been hindered by solvent-related issues, creating a bottleneck that has constrained research breakthroughs.
To address this challenge, the department has introduced a solvent purification system from Beijing Yifeng Technology Co., Ltd. This system is designed for solvents commonly used in the synthesis of smart responsive polymers, such as tetrahydrofuran and water. It optimises the removal process for ions and small-molecule impurities, enabling the thorough elimination of impurities from the solvent and ensuring that the solvent purity meets the stringent requirements of material synthesis. The system operates in an automated mode, allowing for real-time adjustment of purification parameters to accommodate the synthesis needs of different types of smart responsive polymers, whilst also enabling the recycling of solvents, thereby reducing experimental costs.
Since its introduction, the Yifeng Solvent Purification System has become a core pillar of research and development into smart responsive polymer materials. The purified solvents stabilise the conformation of polymer chains, significantly enhancing the materials’ response sensitivity and reversibility, whilst completely resolving issues such as reduced response performance previously caused by impurities. Researchers are now able to focus on optimising material structures and developing functionalities, successfully developing a range of smart responsive polymer materials that demonstrate broad application prospects in fields such as smart drug delivery systems and flexible actuators.
