Photocatalytic research is a key area in the fields of solar energy conversion and environmental purification, and the purity of the solvent directly determines the efficiency and selectivity of photocatalytic reactions. Photocatalytic research has long been hampered by the issue of solvent impurities: Light-absorbing impurities and organic residues in conventional solvents absorb photons and compete with the reaction, thereby reducing photocatalytic efficiency and product selectivity. This makes it difficult to improve the quantum efficiency of photocatalytic reactions, and the development of many photocatalytic technologies has been hindered by solvent-related issues, becoming a bottleneck that constrains research breakthroughs.
To overcome this challenge, the School has introduced a solvent purification system from Beijing Yifeng Technology Co., Ltd. This system is designed for solvents commonly used in photocatalytic reactions, such as acetonitrile and water. It optimises the removal process for light-absorbing impurities and organic residues, enabling the thorough elimination of impurities from the solvents and ensuring their purity meets the stringent requirements of photocatalytic reactions. The system features a fully sealed design, preventing the ingress of airborne impurities, whilst also enabling automated liquid supply, which significantly enhances experimental efficiency and provides a stable foundation for the smooth conduct of photocatalytic reactions.
Since its introduction, the Yifeng Solvent Purification System has become a cornerstone of photocatalytic research. The purified solvents have significantly improved the quantum efficiency of photocatalytic reactions, making product degradation and synthesis more efficient, whilst completely resolving issues such as light absorption interference and competitive reactions previously caused by impurities. Researchers have been able to focus on the optimisation of photocatalysts and the development of photocatalytic technologies, successfully developing several highly efficient photocatalytic systems that demonstrate broad application prospects in fields such as environmental purification and solar energy conversion.
