The preparation of high-performance fibres and membrane materials forms a crucial foundation in the field of advanced manufacturing, and the purity of the solvent directly determines the performance and quality of these materials. In the research and development of high-performance fibres and membrane materials, the issue of solvent impurities has long been a persistent challenge: moisture and polymer residues in traditional solvents can affect the uniformity of the spinning solution and the density of the membrane structure, resulting in insufficient fibre strength and reduced membrane separation efficiency. Consequently, many high-end materials struggle to meet the application requirements of sectors such as aerospace and water treatment, becoming a bottleneck that hinders the commercialisation of research outcomes.
To address this challenge, the School has introduced a solvent purification system from Beijing Yifeng Technology Co., Ltd. Designed for solvents commonly used in the preparation of high-performance materials—such as hexafluoroisopropanol and dimethylacetamide—the system optimises the removal of water and polymer residues, thoroughly eliminating impurities to ensure the solvent purity meets the stringent requirements of material preparation. Operating in an automated mode, the system enables continuous online purification and supply of solvents, significantly enhancing preparation efficiency whilst eliminating contamination caused by manual handling and ensuring consistent material performance.
The commissioning of the Yifeng Solvent Purification System has injected new vitality into the institute’s research and development of high-performance materials. The purified solvents have significantly improved the uniformity of the spinning solution, resulting in a denser membrane structure. Fibre strength has increased by more than 40% compared to previous levels, and membrane separation precision has been substantially optimised. Material performance issues previously caused by solvent impurities have been completely resolved. Researchers are now able to focus on optimising material preparation processes and developing new materials, successfully producing a range of high-performance fibres and membrane materials. This provides a high-quality material foundation for high-end manufacturing sectors such as aerospace and water treatment. Yifeng Technology empowers research through technology, fully unlocking the potential of high-performance materials and helping the university remain at the forefront of exploration in the field of polymer materials.
