Catalytic reaction engineering and green catalysis research are key areas within the energy and chemical engineering sectors, and the purity of solvents directly determines the efficiency, selectivity and environmental friendliness of catalytic reactions. Research into catalytic reaction engineering has long been hampered by the issue of solvent impurities: trace impurities in conventional solvents adsorb onto the catalyst surface, masking active sites, reducing catalytic efficiency and increasing by-product formation. This not only affects the economic viability of the reaction but also increases the environmental burden. The development of many green catalytic processes has struggled to achieve industrialisation due to solvent-related issues, becoming a bottleneck that constrains research breakthroughs.
To address this challenge, the institute has introduced a solvent purification system from Beijing Yifeng Technology Co., Ltd. This system is designed for solvents commonly used in catalytic reactions, such as acetone, cyclohexane and ethanol. It optimises the removal process for adsorbed impurities and trace amounts of water and oxygen, enabling the thorough removal of interfering substances from the solvents. This ensures stable and reliable solvent purity, thereby guaranteeing the full exposure of the catalyst’s active sites. The system is capable of simultaneously purifying multiple solvents. Purification parameters can be adjusted in real time to meet the requirements of catalytic reactions, enabling the recycling of solvents. This significantly reduces solvent consumption and experimental costs, aligning with the principles of green catalysis.
Since its introduction, the Yifeng Solvent Purification System has become a ‘valuable assistant’ in catalytic reaction engineering research. Purified solvents have increased the efficiency of catalytic reactions by over 25% and reduced by-product formation by 30%, significantly enhancing the environmental sustainability and economic viability of the reactions. Issues of low catalytic efficiency previously caused by solvent impurities have been completely resolved. Researchers are now able to focus on optimising catalytic systems and developing green catalytic processes, achieving breakthroughs in numerous catalytic reaction processes and providing vital support for sustainable development in fields such as energy conversion and environmental remediation.
